John Joseph "Joe" Murphy Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Joe's passing March 11, 2024.

Born October 2, 1939 in Saint John, New Brunswick to George and Kathleen (n. Fitzpatrick) Murphy. He was the first of 9 children who were raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.

He was predeceased by his parents, wife Cheryl (n.McPhee), daughter Krista (Vigneault), sister Elizabeth (Joe O'Keefe), brother Bernie (Marilyn), sister Maureen and brother-in-law and life-long friend Bill McIntosh.

Joe is survived by daughter Micki, grandchildren Hannah Vigneault (Zach) and Sam Vigneault (Kirsten), sister Theresa Banfield (George), brothers Greg (Florence), Mike (Audrey), Pat (Marilyn), Kevin (Sheila), and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Joe had a passion for cars and racing. He was a highly skilled mechanic, a generous mentor, and was always happy to lend a hand to family and friends alike. Countless hours were spent in the garage with close friends and racing partners Ian and Lorne Buchanan. Joe was a beloved member of the drag racing community. He raced on many tracks across Canada and the U.S. and could often be found helping a fellow driver.

Next time you crack open a cold one, remember Joe in his happy place, at the track.

Cremation has occurred with plans for a celebration of life at a later date. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
